Eucalyptus citriodora

PROPERTIES

  • Stimulating and refreshing effect
  • Joint and muscle pain relief
  • Antifungal effect
  • Bug repellant

Lemon eucalyptus is a species of evergreen tree endemic to northeastern Australia. Like many other species of eucalyptus, it has fantastic adaptability and growth capacity. Nowadays it can just as easily be found in Brazil, China and South Africa. It has a very telling name – its scent is reminiscent of lemon, citrus. Its uses are versatile – it is much wanted in the wood and fragrance industry, but also in the honey industry. Striving for new experiences, lemon eucalyptus has ventured into (unchartered) pharmaceutical and aromatherapy waters. Its versatility and omnipresence have nothing to do with putting up defenses. It is willing to share its wide-ranging effects with everyone, but will not always be in a mood to talk. Sometimes it is reclusive, shying away from chit-chat. But its job will be well done, expediently, and hassle-free.

Lemon eucalyptus essential oil has a broad spectrum of properties. It has anti-inflammatory and relaxing effects. In creams and balms for skin applications this oil reduces joint and muscle pain. To boot, this fearsome arch nemesis of fungal skin infections is also an efficacious indoor mold killer. It can often be found in anti-cellulite massage oils. But there is more to it than meets the eye. A few drops in the diffuser will create a stimulating and invigorating environment, as well as clear and refresh the air. This oil will put an end to bug bites as well. Its use in insect repellent sprays will hold both mosquitos and certain types of ticks at bay – and it is safe for humans and pets.
