Cedrus deodara
PROPERTIES
Himalayan cedar is an evergreen tree native to the western Himalayas. This giant may reach a striking 60m in height. The botanical name deodara derives from the Sanskrit word, which means “wood of the Gods”. The Sumerians, Babylonians and Egyptians used it for therapeutic and beauty applications, but also for embalming purposes. Himalayan cedar oil has a sweet, woody and a bit nutty scent.
The essential oil of this gentle ogre is traditionally used in creams, lotions and balms to support the activity of the lymphatic system. Such applications provide excellent relief from swelling, excess water retention in body tissues and varicose veins. Logically – this colossus needs a lot of water. It will remove as much fluid as possible. Your tired and swollen legs will receive a calm and gentle treatment. And so will your skin. When mixed into creams and balms, it relieves itchy skin, and balances sebum production. A few drops added to your shampoo will become effective anti-dandruff agents for your scalp. This oil can often be found in anti-cellulite massage oils. The effects of this sturdy, gigantic and firmly rooted goliath will nonetheless take a tad different path – this oil prefers to spur things up. But it still lets things take their natural course.
